I was thinking about my childhood and noticed that I was different from the other kids in my school and neighborhood. I didn’t like how pink was related to girls and blue to boys, I hated that the red ranger never was a girl, I hated that I couldn’t play with boy’s toys and I absolutely loathed fashion, makeup and all the things girls at my age used to care. In short, I just hated everything about patriarchy.
So, when I found out what and how important feminism is I felt really happy that I already had a little feminist side and that there were so many people who thought just like me.

We all have prejudices and we all make mistakes. We’re only human beings living in a culture where we are socialized to fear differences in others.
Being able to recognize and analyze our differences and prejudices is one of the most important things we can do as feminists and as humans. Realizing that the things we do or say can affect people is key. We must find ways to change our hearts in order to change our world; we must develop a sense of interdependence rather than falling into the old modes of “dependence” and “independence.”
“I urge each one of us here to reach down into that deep place of knowledge inside herself and touch that terror and loathing of any difference that lives there. See whose face it wears. Then the personal as the political can begin to illuminate all our choices.” - Audre Lorde
Admitting you were wrong is the first step, and it’s often the hardest, which is why I think it’s pretty courageous.

Do you remember the first time you told someone off because they were perpetuating oppression? The first time you signed a petition, went to a feminist potluck, joined a rally or a protest? It takes a lot of guts to speak out against oppression, whether it’s sexism, racism, classism, ableism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia…
It may not always seem worth it, and you have to pick your battles so you don’t burn yourself out, and you have to remember to take care of yourself… but there’s such important work to be done in order to dismantle the hegemonic patriarchy.
Don’t be silent. Don’t be afraid any longer. Rise up! Know your rights and fight for them! Let your beautiful voice be heard! - yeas

Our first Amazing and Courageous Feminist Moment is all about loving yourself. It sounds like it could be potentially cheesy, and it’s probably cliché, but who gives a shit. Try to look at it from this perspective: It’s a truly radical thing to say to yourself, “You know what? Fuck what the patriarchy wants me to be. Fuck what everybody says I should be. I’m going to be myself, and I’m going to love the fuck out of me!”
You’re all amazing! <3

FEMINISM + YOU = WIN!

We’re going to start a daily segment we’d like to call Amazing and Courageous Feminist Moments. The purpose of these is to highlight and celebrate those empowering moments when you’re proud to call yourself a feminist despite the backlash you may receive. They are meant to encourage you to keep going and keep fighting the good fight, no matter how large or small those daily struggles may seem.
